Two weeks after restoring peace to Unikingdom, everyone prepares for their first Friendship Festival, overseen by Princess Unikitty. The festivities are interrupted by an invasion of monsters commanded by a former Doom Lord named Lord Scarlet, who is under orders from the Storm Queen to capture Unikitty, who escapes being petrified by Lord Scarlet's magical orbs. The orbs turn some of the people of Unikingdom into stone. Joined by her friends Prince Puppycorn, Dr. Fox, Hawkodile, Richard, Master Frown, and Brock, Unikitty sets out to find the answer to stopping the Storm Queen and restoring harmony to Unikingdom.
Unikitty's group travel to the desert city of Klugetown, where a friendly con artist duck named Nigel offers to escort them, secretly intending to sell them to settle a debt. As Nigel begins to develop a genuine friendship with them, Unikitty discovers a map that tells them the way to a group of magical dolphins, exposing Nigel's treachery. When Lord Scarlet arrives in pursuit of Unikitty, the group evade her aboard a delivery airship run by quail pirates, whom Master Frown persuades to take them to the mermaids' kingdom on Mount Aris. In a moment of over-excitement, Puppycorn activates the fireworks that inadvertently give their location away to Lord Scarlet, forcing the group to reach Mount Aris in a makeshift hot air balloon.
While exploring the dolphins' deserted kingdom, the gang is saved from drowning in an underwater cavern by the dolphin Princess Carol, who leads them to her undersea home of Seatopia. Carol reveals her kind to be the dolphins, transformed by a magic pearl used by her mother, Queen Luna, to hide from the Storm Queen. When Luna denies them the pearl to use against the Storm Queen, Unikitty desperately attempts to steal it while letting her friends unknowingly distract the dolphins. Her plan backfires when she triggers an alarm before Dr. Fox can persuade Luna to give them the pearl, resulting in the entire group getting banished to the surface. After separating from her friends following an argument, Unikitty is kidnapped by Lord Scarlet, who gains her sympathy upon revealing how she was abandoned by Master Frown in the past few years, revealing that she was his ex-girlfriend. Meanwhile, Puppycorn alerts the gang to Unikitty's capture, who return to Unikingdom to rescue her with the help of Nigel, the pirates, and Carol.
In Unikingdom, Lord Scarlet delivers Unikitty to the Storm Queen, who absorbs Unikitty's power to empower her magical staff and conjure a storm against Unikitty's friends, betraying Lord Scarlet as well. Unikitty saves Lord Scarlet and reconciles with her friends, who help her take the wand and end the storm. However, the Storm Queen uses the stolen power to control Unikitty, and tells her to attack her friends. They tell her that she was the one who always trusts her friends, causing Unikitty to come to her senses. Angered, the Storm Queen hurls a magical orb at the group to petrify them, but Lord Scarlet jumps in her way, turning them both into stone; the Storm Queen's body falls and shatters, while the group use the staff to revive Lord Scarlet, whom Master Frown reconciles with. Lord Scarlet returns the stolen magic to restore the stoned people of Unikingdom and the damaged city. The Friendship Festival resumes, and everyone in Unikingdom celebrates with all of the allies Unikitty's group have made on their adventure. Encouraged by Unikitty, Lord Scarlet happily accepts the group's friendship.
