5542644 Die Jagd nach dem Pharaonenschatz (The Hunt for the Pharaoh's Treasure) is a German Adventurers Egypt Audio Drama released in 1998. It was included in 5938 Das Grab des Anubis in Germany.[1]

Plot[]

In Ancient Egypt, a decade after Pharaoh Ramses IV's death, grave robbers entered his tomb and stole his treasure, including the magic ruby. All but one robber succumbed to poison in the tomb, and the sole survivor hid the ruby in the desert before dying from a red snake bite.

In October 1910, famed adventurer Joe Freemann reads the newspaper in his home in Europe. He sees an article about himself recently helping a well-known individual out of a dangerous situation involving stolen documents. This article is correct, but Joe wonders how its author, Linda Lovely, was able to learn about this secret mission. Although it is nearly midnight, he receives a phone call from Professor Articus, who tells him to come to the museum's Egyptian section where the mummy of Ramses IV is kept; there, the professor had found a papyrus revealing a clue to the magic ruby of Ramses. However, Articus suddenly goes silent, which alarms Joe.

Joe Freemann arrives at the museum and encounters a black cobra. He also finds Professor Articus lying on the ground, regaining consciousness after being knocked out by someone who stole the papyrus. Fortunately, Articus had already copied the papyrus, which is revealed to be one of four map pieces. Articus also introduces the black cobra as his pet snake, Kleopatra. Reading the map, they decide to begin their search at Abu Simbel. Articus's attacker, the former prizefighter Sly Boots, eavesdrops on their conversation and then heads to a nearby cafe to call Mr. Hates.

At Nuweiba, Joe Freemann and Professor Articus fly a hot air balloon to fly to their destination. They discover that Kleopatra has accompanied them in Articus's backpack, and discuss that the first map is marked with the face of Khnum. They set down near what appears to be several large boulders, but Kleopatra goes missing and they spend a long time looking for her. During their search, they stumble upon a hidden snake pit and Kleopatra seemingly leads them to the secret entrance to a tomb in the rocks. Inside the tomb, they read hieroglyphs and find the second papyrus map, pointing them to the Valley of the Kings. Articus quickly copies the map.

Mr. Hates arrives in a bi-plane; upon seeing his hook hand, Joe Freemann recognizes Hates as a criminal collector who lost his left hand stealing the maharaja's diamond in India. Hates forces them to hand over the map; he tries to take their copy as well, but instead finds Kleopatra in Articus's backpack. Hates leaves in his bi-plane, but Joe and Articus are stranded since the villain cut up their hot air balloon. Fortunately, the journalist Linda Lovely arrives in a desert truck, and the adventurers decide they can trust her to help them.

Joe Freemann, Professor Articus, and Linda Lovely drive to Luxor, where Joe's friend Billy Speed flies their plane to the Valley of the Kings. The map, which bears the face of Anubis, points them to a specific tomb marked with paintings of a jackal. Mr. Hates and Sly Boots have already reached the tomb, but they are wary of traps and leave to get a guide. The adventurers find a coffin with a stone jackal statue, and they pull a spear with a chain to open the coffin and find the third papyrus map inside. Joe is nearly trapped inside the coffin when it shuts and the chain breaks, but he jumps out at the last second. They exit the tomb with the map, which is marked with the face of Thoth. They are chased by Hates, Sly Boots, and an Arab guide back to Billy's plane.

After a brief break in Luxor, they head toward their next destination and make camp for the night, unaware that Mr. Hates and Sly Boots are following them. The next morning, the heroes and villains head to the sphinx and start searching for the fourth map. Joe Freemann and Linda Lovely trick Hates and Sly Boots into triggering a trap in front of the sphinx, distracting them while the adventurers safely find the map underneath the obelisk. This final piece of papyrus depicts Horus and leads them to Memphis.

The adventurers arrive at a massive temple. They dodge a stone trap at the entrance and avoid another halberd trap. Linda Lovely investigates a skeleton but disappears behind a revolving wall, which reveals a ruby contained in a glass container. The wall revolves again, this time trapping Joe Freemann and the ruby on the other side. Mr. Hates and Sly Boots arrive, and when the wall spins again, the villains force Joe to hand over the ruby in exchange for Linda's safety. Joe complies, and the villains leave the temple with the ruby. Kleopatra draws the adventurers' attention to a black sarcophagus containing the real Ramses ruby; the one that the villains took was merely a fake.

The adventurers bring the ruby to the museum to display along with Ramses IV's mummy. Later, at Joe Freeman's office, Joe and Linda are reading the latter's latest article about their adventure. The article also states that Joe and Linda have been engaged. They look forward to going on more adventures and writing more articles together.
