75280 501st Legion Clone Troopers is a set released on August 1, 2020 as part of the Season 7 wave of The Clone Wars line. The set contains 6 minifigures, including three 501st Legion Clone Troopers, a Clone Jetpack Trooper and two Battle Droids. The set features an AT-RT and a BARC Speeder in the blue 501st colour scheme. The set was revealed on LEGO's social media on April 2, 2020.

Background

The 501st Legion, originally operating as an elite group known as the 501st Clone Battalion, was a Republic Military battalion and later legion of elite clone troopers under the command of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and Jedi Commander Ahsoka Tano. The legion was briefly and tentatively led by Jedi General Pong Krell in one instance that Skywalker was absent. Clone Captain CT-7567 "Rex" served as Skywalker's first-in-command, and was eventually promoted to the military rank of Clone Commander when the 501st Legion split into two groups.

Clone Commander CC-1119 "Appo," previously a Clone Sergeant within the legion, was promoted to Clone Commander and placed in command of the other half of the 501st forces after Commander Rex vanished. Clone Captain CT-0292 "Vaughn" served within the legion, as did Clone Lieutenant CT-5597 "Jesse," Clone Lieutenant "Hawk," Clone Sergeant CT-0000/1010 "Fox," and another clone sergeant.

Notes

  • A Battle Pack based around the 501st Legion had been desired by fans since the release of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Although the movie released on 2005, a social media campaign started by a video on YouTube of MandRproductions, only in December 2018. This was followed by a social media campaign called "#WeWantA501stBattlePack", which gained traction among LEGO Star Wars fans. When LEGO revealed this set on April 2, 2020, they stated that "You asked for it. We’ve built it", an indirect reference to the campaign, without quoting it. If the set can be hardly considered as a part of Battle Packs due to its size (around 300 pieces instead of the usual 100-200 piececount), its number of minifigures (6 instead of 4) and its price ($30 instead of $10–15), MandRproductions still took credit when LEGO announced this set by another video on YouTube.
