870 Technical Motor, 4.5 V is a TECHNIC-themed supplementary set released in 1977. It includes a battery box, motor, cord, and some assorted gears, pulleys, plates and other parts.

This is the first TECHNIC motor set.
This set is the same as 960 Power Pack.
It was replaced by 8700 Power Pack
Although rated at 4.5V, the motor can tolerate a certain amount of overdriving up to 12V (using a 7864 transformer) but it will eventually fail. The mode of failure is the shaft will overheat and melt the plastic axle, causing it to break.
