The 8879 Power Functions IR Speed Remote Control was introduced in 2009 alongside the 10194 Emerald Night in the Trains theme.

The remote control features two dials, one dial for each channel (red and blue).
Recall[]
The remote control was recalled in July 2009 due to the batteries in the remote being vulnerable to overheating, causing hazards. LEGO had received four calls of batteries over heating, but no injuries. LEGO has since repaired this problem.
