Plot[]

In a flashback, Lord Ras arrives in Imperium for the first time from the Wyldness for an audience with Emperor Levo. He attempts to persuade the emperor to assist in his efforts to capture one of the Source Dragons, which he claims to have seen in person despite their supposed mythical status. Levo, however, is uninterested in capturing or draining a dragon of its power, as Imperium uses power freely given by dragons to fuel its technology. When Ras points out that a Source Dragon's power would allow for the conquest of other realms, the peaceful Levo dismisses his suggestions and demands his departure.

Levo's daughter, Zeatrix, promptly humbles Ras with a display of her elemental power, much to the pleasure of her father and the apparent displeasure of her sister Beatrix. Back in the present, Beatrix-now empress-delivers a public address to her citizens, extolling the supposed virtues of Imperium over those of the other realms that are now part of the single merged world. Her address culminates in her apparently being impressed by a pair of children; in truth, this is some special effects trickery enabled by Dorama, as Beatrix finds the idea of actually touching children revolting. Beatrix contacts Dr. LaRow, who notes that she is unable to complete the weapon Beatrix desires without all three Dragon Cores.

Right on cue, Rapton arrives with what appears to be the third Dragon Core, as well as news that the Ninja are also searching for the cores. Meanwhile, in the Land of Lost Things, Sora gets to work building armor for Jiro as a means of breaking through Imperium's energy barrier so they can retrieve the core stolen by Dr. LaRow. With a boost from Riyu she succeeds, but Cole then informs Nya that he won't be accompanying them. Based on his sense that the earth is "screaming", and having heard the voice of Master Wu just as Nya and Kai previously had, Cole is going off on his own. The two old friends bid farewell, and Sora, Nya, and Riyu depart on Zanth and Jiro as Wu's spirit once again appears to lead Cole to his next destination.

Back in Imperium, Beatrix gathers LaRow, Dorama, Jordana, and Rapton as she displays the three Dragon Cores. Dr. LaRow anticipates being able to complete and test her weapon within a few days, but Beatrix insists that the weapon be tested immediately despite the possible dangers. As LaRow prepares to test fire the weapon, she determines that one of the cores has a different energy reading from the others, but again Beatrix insists on moving forward with the test. This proves to be a mistake, as the test unleashes an explosion that even the Ninja outside Imperium see the effects of.

As Beatrix storms off in a huff and goes to visit Ras in his cell, her underlings notice that Rapton is no longer with them. The flashback resumes with Beatrix approaching Lord Ras in the past seeking to accept his offer of an alliance. The younger Beatrix notes that, though she and Zeatrix are twins, her older (by a few minutes) sister inherited their father's Elemental Power, which Beatrix feels she constantly rubs in Beatrix's face. Ras also notes that Zeatrix is heir to their father's throne, another point of contention for Beatrix, who asks Rapton to help her secure that position for herself so that they can then execute his plan together.

The pair acted swiftly, arranging for Levo's death and corrupting a number of Imperium Guards to help them capture Zeatrix so that Beatrix could be installed as Empress. In the present, Ras then tries to convince Beatrix to free him so that he can once again assist her. Outside the city, Kai encourages Wyldfyre to put aside her recent patience training to provide a distraction, luring out several Imperium Guards so that the rest of the team can attack them. They then use the Guards' hoverboards and eye scans to get to and into the city, while Beatrix rejects Ras' proposal to let him out and is then alerted to the Ninja arriving in the city.

Before the Ninja get far into the city, they are surrounded by a force of guards, only to receive unexpected aid from the Imperium Teen Protection Force. Percival, leading the two groups through the streets, explains that they are now the Imperium Teen Resistance Force, hoping the Ninja are there to help them take down Beatrix. Back at the testing lab, LaRow informs Beatrix that the core Rapton delivered to them was fake, and caused the failed test and explosion. With Rapton having disappeared, and the Ninja in the city, Beatrix insists that LaRow use the power of their captured Source Dragon to complete the weapon.

LaRow reminds Beatrix that they have so far failed to draw energy from the dragon, and warns that even a successful attempt in order to fuel the weapon would have the potential to destroy Imperium. That proves to be enough for her to refuse to carry out Beatrix's orders. Unfortunately, Jordana-no doubt eager to prove herself superior to both LaRow and Sora-claims that she can accomplish what the empress desires.
