In the Cloud Kingdom, Cinder continues to perfect his skills in Shatterspin under Lord Ras' mentorship, and also begins vying with Jordana for the role of Ras' right-hand. Euphrasia, meanwhile, is kept prisoner by a vengestone medallion. At the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Kai takes out his frustration with the current situation on various crates by smashing them with his Fire Mech, much to Nya's annoyance. Unfortunately, Nya can't find any references to Shatterspin or the Forbidden Five in Master Wu's records.
Arin, Sora, and Riyu are similarly struggling, with Sora building new gadgets while Arin works on his Spinjitzu technique. Lloyd, meanwhile, meditates on his troubling visions in hopes of finding answers to the mysteries the Ninja are facing. However, after hours of doing so, Lloyd has made no progress and desperately cries out to the Source Dragons for help. Unexpectedly, he is then contacted by the mighty beings, including the one he previously freed from Imperium, who appeals to the other Source Dragons to help Lloyd in this time of need.
Lloyd is then shown a vision of another dragon and an ancient temple, from which he gleans that there is a teacher who can help the Ninja learn to counter Shatterspin. Meanwhile, Wyldfyre is recovering from her injuries sustained fighting Cinder when Kai arrives to inform her that the rest of them are leaving. Wyldfyre is furious at the idea of being left behind, but seemingly accepts as the others board the Destiny's Bounty 5.0. Zane and Mr. Frohicky are also remaining behind to watch over the monastery.
Back in the Cloud Kingdom, Jordana succeeds in locating a mysterious "final component" that Ras desires, thus gaining the lead in her new rivalry with Cinder. The Wolf Clan then force the Writers of Destiny to activate a system that allows them to move a portion of the Cloud Kingdom, turning it into a mobile headquarters. Lloyd, meanwhile, struggles with doubt over his inability to understand his visions, though Nya does her best to reassure him. The group then discover that they have a stowaway in the form of Wyldfyre, who stubbornly insists that she can help despite being in obvious pain.
The Bounty then arrives at the entrance to a large tunnel, big enough for the ship to fly into. Sora, recalling a time she hid after getting in trouble as a child in Imperium, begins to wonder if the teacher they're looking for has done something similar to avoid being found. Lloyd begins to recognize things from his vision, but the Bounty is too large to fit through another entryway he spots. Sora then unveils her new grappling tools, built so that the Ninja can charge them with Elemental Power.
However, as Riyu and Wyldfyre are unable to make their way up unaided, Sora decides to craft a climbing mech for Kai using his grapple and components from several ships that weren't so fortunate when they ventured into the area in the past. The entire group is thus able to begin climbing, only to be attacked by tentacles that emerge from holes in the shaft which they are ascending. Fortunately, Nya and Lloyd are able to ward them off with Spinjitzu, though Sora and Arin are both dismayed by their respective lacks in Ninja skill: Spinjitzu and Elemental Power. Reaching the top of the shaft, the group enters another tunnel, but then find themselves enveloped by darkness.
Finding himself apparently alone, Arin encounters hisparents, who accuse him of abandoning them for the Ninja. Sora encounters what seems to be a screen with the images of Beatrix and Ras that begins drawing her in, while Lloyd is confronted by a disappointed Wu and a mocking Ras who grow to gigantic size. Nya then encounters Jay, but he shows no indication of recognizing her. Nya is thus able to recognize that what she's experiencing isn't real and awakens to find her friends trapped by a monstrous creature.
Nya blasts the beast away and frees her friends and finds that each suffered a similar disturbing vision. The team then emerges from the tunnel to reach a fog-shrouded expanse, and despite Lloyd's reluctance Kai and Nya take the lead in encouraging the others to proceed. They just find themselves at a gate Lloyd saw in his vision from the Source Dragons. Before they can enter it, however, the dragon from the same vision appears to confront them.
