Canopus, also known as Scientist[1] and Excavation Searcher,[2] is a Martian minifigure from Life on Mars, introduced in 2001.

Description[]

Canopus uses the standard Martian build, with brick yellow torso and legs and bright bluish green arms and head. His head is printed with a large face mask including a lens over his right eye.

Background[]

Canopus is a Martian scientist who operates the Excavation Searcher.

In the PC and PlayStation 2 versions of LEGO Racers 2, the Scientist is found at the Aero Tube Hangar, where he tells the player that the Martians have developed the technology to contain a vortex at their former base; this hints at the location of a bonus game.

In the Game Boy Advance version of LEGO Racers 2, Canopus is found at the northeastern Recon-Mech RP hangar, where he tunes racers' engines with the nano-brickometer and tells the player about a race about to start. At the end of the game, Canopus appears on Xalax alongside Slyboots, Cosmo Cool, and a Female Police Officer congratulating the player on beating Rocket Racer; since Canopus is the only one of the four characters who does not host any bonus games, this may have been an error by the game developers and Canopus's appearance may have been intended to be Pollux instead (who does appear in the cutscene but is only seen from behind and does not speak).

In Soccer Mania, the Excavation Searcher is a defender of the Martians team, which challenges the player's team during their pursuit of the Brickster. His stats (out of a maximum of 272) are 240 speed, 224 shooting, 240 passing, 272 tackling, and 48 goalkeeping.[3] This marks Canopus's only playable appearance in a video game.
