The Chain Chomp is a Super Mario brick-built Minifigure to be released in 2021. It is based on the Nintendo character of the same name who debuted in Super Mario Bros. 3 in 1988.

It is mostly black, but does have white teeth and a red tongue. The ‘chain’ on its back is not a traditional LEGO chain, but one made from eight grey TECHNIC beams all held together with TECHNIC pins.
Background[]
The Chain Chomp was a large, carnivorous sphere who tried to attack the Mario brothers whenever they were nearby, but was limited in movement because of the chain holding it back. The Chain Chomp first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 in 1988, although it was originally conceived for the Legend of Zelda series.[1] Shigeru Miyamoto was the one who conceived the original Chain Chomp, inspired by a childhood incident where a neighbour's bulldog almost attacked him until its chain yanked it back.[2]
