Plot[]

Lloyd awakens Arin, Riyu, and Sora for their first day of Ninja training, quite early for Sora's liking. Sora is less than enthusiastic, particularly for fear that they might miss the annual Crossroads Carnival, which Arin also hopes to attend. However, Lloyd, eager to emulate his uncle Wu, is determined to subject them to the Monastery of Spinjitzu training course. Unfortunately, his insistence on trying to everything exactly like Wu did soon results in problems.

Sora convinces Arin to sneak out to the carnival that night, and an excited Riyu is "disguised" so that he can join them on their escapade. The event is a true spectacle, featuring performances and diversion by Skulkin, Serpentine, Munce, and various other denizens of the Crossroads. However, just after Arin submits his entry for the pie-making contest and has a tense exchange with his recurring rival Grab-Barg, Mech-Master 5000 winner Lobbo is abducted by a group of Whack Rats. The trio quickly go after him, with Riyu boosting Sora's powers to allow her to turn the components of her mech-currently on display at the carnival-into a motorcycle so she can join the pursuit.

As Lloyd is discovering that his students have run out on him, Lobbo is delivered to Kreel, who feels that she was cheated out of victory in the race. Arin, Riyu, and Sora soon arrive to rescue Lobbo, and soon discover that she has a more urgent reason for seeking to take Kreel's prize money. Her only friend, a Whack Rat named Targle, has been abducted, and she hopes to use the money to secure his freedom. Arin convinces Sora that they should rescue Kreel's minion instead as Ninja-in-training.

Lloyd, meanwhile, wanders the carnival and discovers a shrine to himself and the other Ninja, much to his surprise. He then discovers fragments of his meditation carpet, which were used in Riyu's disguise. Arin's party travel to the drop point Kreel was instructed to go to, and find Targle and other Whack Rats in a cage apparently drained of energy. The culprit behind these deeds is then revealed: the magician and special effects expert Dorama, the frequent star attraction of the carnival. As he explains-while facing Arin and Sora to face a gauntlet of deadly obstacles-he uses the Whack Rats' unique energies to fuel his fireworks display to ensure that it's the greatest spectacle at the carnival.

As Dorama unleashes a giant marionette on his foes, Lloyd arrives to join the battle. Arin then stuns his master by hurling an object at the marionette that he somehow imbues with Spinjitzu powers. The heroes then manage to take down both Dorama and his marionette, and leave him for the authorities to pick up. They then return Targle to Kreel, and Lloyd's students apologize for their disobedience while he apologies for his heavy-handed methods. Returning to the Crossroads, they find that Arin has lost the pie-baking contest, but set off to enjoy the rest of the carnival's delights before training resumes the next day. Dorama, meanwhile, is freed from the cage he was left in by Lord Ras, who intends to employ the deranged magician.
