LEGO Racers: Reload is a custom video game of Racers and Speed Champions themes. It was created by Shiva.
Gameplay
The player progresses through various levels of Story Mode, based on racing against other racers. Each completed level can be replayed in Free Play mode using cars, available for the player. Levels are scattered around World City, which returns from LEGO World City: Video Game as the game's main hub. Player can freely roam through the streets of the familiar city, with an opportunity of accepting various side missions or returning to their garage, where the player can buy a new car or upgrade an already bought one for money earned from races.
There are different challenges available to accept. Beginning from simple lap circuits and sprint races, player can also accept various challenges like drag races, drift challenges, police evasions. The player can also accept police missions with an opportunity of driving a cop car and catching street racers.
LEGO Racers: Street Showdown bears many differences from previous Racers game. If Racers: Reload had a setting of a sports events and didn't have an open world, Street Showdown is set in the world of illegal street racing, where there is a big possibility to get into police ambush during a race, which then turns into a chase, where the player has to evade police without stopping their current race. If police still manages to catch the player, they will be arrested and the race will stop. Also, while Reload had different kinds of vehicles to drive and different racers to play as, in Street Showdown the player can only drive cars and play as two characters: Ryan Rhoads, the street racer, and Jack Nitro, the police officer.
Plot
The game's storyline begins right after LEGO World City Video Game's ending.
A new person, a young man named Ryan Rhoads, arrives into World City in their small but obviously customized for racing car. He remembers his past of studying extreme driving and afterwards being hired by a businessman Vinnie Pappalardo to present him in a race in World City. That race, though, turned out to be an illegal street race with a driver from a notorious street racing club. Vinnie, who owns a rival club, wants Ryan to beat that driver in a race, so he could earn a lot of money from stakes placed on that driver. After successfully winning the race, Vinnie pays Ryan a big sum of money and tells him that if he wants to race on streets more, he should come back to World City and join one of the street racing clubs in there.
Flashback of Ryan's past ends, and he finally finds some street racers ready to race through the streets of World City. Ryan immediately joins them and once he comes first, all other racers, impressed with Ryan's skills, offer him a place in the Midnight Club, one of the biggest societies of World City street racers. Ryan, proud of himself, agrees to their offer.
In the clubhouse of Midnight Club, which looks like an abandoned building formerly used as a warehouse, Ryan meets Kira, a girl who introduces everything about Midnight Club to him. She shows him a wall with the list of club's fame where ten best racers of the club are shown in order from the worst of the best to the best of the best. #1 in this list is considered a de facto leader of Midnight Club, however current #1 is a pretty shady and mysterious person, who rarely speaks to anyone of the club, especially to those who aren't listed in the list of fame. Kira tells Ryan that if he wants to appear in this, he should challenge or be challenged by a racer, who is #10 on this list, and in order to progress through this list, he should challenge all of its drivers in a direct order from #10 to #1. After such explanation, Kira invites Ryan to compete in a friendly race with her and two other racers of the clubhouse. Ryan wins and thus interests DJ Web, #10 of the list of fame. Web is the main DJ of the clubhouse and is also coincidentally Kira's brother, so he is interested in Ryan's driving skills and challenges him for a head-to-head race. Ryan, hoping to appear in the list of fame after that race, accepts the challenge and, despite having to avoid police chase after their race, his name does indeed appear on that list. Although DJ Web is a bit disappointed to remove his name from the list at all, he befriends Ryan afterwards and tells him he can use his racing bus in races whenever he wants to. Web explains him that Midnight Club has such tradition: any racer of the list of fame is permitted to drive cars of any other racer from this list beaten by them in a race, even if that racer isn't on the list anymore.
Afterwards, DJ Web arranges an evening party in the clubhouse, for greeting the new driver in the list of fame. Almost every member of Midnight Club attends it, so Ryan meets all other racers of the list in there. One of them, Ed, tells him that Midnight Club is dragged into the huge debt to the rival street racing club, Night Shift. Some time prior to the current events, Ed was challenged by that club's drivers, so he raced one of them and lost, despite the fact that higher stakes were placed on him rather on that driver, however Midnight Club couldn't afford such a sum to pay Night Shift, that's why they're in a debt right now. Ryan remembers his past again and asks Ed about the owner of Night Shift, and Ed tells that owner of that club is a mobster going by the name of Vinnie Pappalardo. These words confirm Ryan's suspicions and he realizes he was the one to drag Midnight Club into that debt, but he keeps quiet about it and instead continues to enjoy the party.

Before being challenged by the player, he tasks Ryan with proving him that Ryan can also perfectly evade the police as well.
Vinnie Pappalardo | Expanding his business to World City, in both legal and illegal ways, Pappalardo decides to organize an illegal street racing business by building Night Shift, main rival street racing club of Midnight Club. That is why Midnight Club owes a big sum of money to Pappalardo and his club. At one point of the story, Vinnie hires Ryan to do some jobs for him connected with racing, so he may reduce a debt owed to him from Midnight Club.
Rex McLaren | Mysterious person, being #1 in the list of fame in Midnight Club. No one in a club does know about him something else but his name. Officer Nitro has been searching for him for quite long time, arresting other racers from Midnight Club to catch Rex. |
