Tom Bombadil is a powerful and mysterious being in Middle-Earth. He lives with his wife Goldberry at the edge of the Old Forest, and close to the Barrow Downs. Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Meriadoc Brandybuck, and Peregrin Took met him on their journey, and were saved by him from a Barrow-wight. The One Ring has no effect on him, and he often sings nonsense.
