LEGO Design byME was an official computer program that allowed users to build their own LEGO sets in a 3D environment, released in 2009. It was originally named LEGO Factory, and it was intended to replace LEGO Digital Designer (the latter is still available for download). Although the software itself was free, it was possible to buy the set over shop.LEGO.com, with the piece quantity determining the price. In early 2012, it was discontinued due to "the program struggling to keep up with LEGO's quality standards". This forces people to continue buying Lego models that are designed by the developers.
