The Djinn are a race of beings from the Ninjago toy line and the Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu and Ninjago: Dragons Rising animated series. They hail from Djinjago, formerly one of the Sixteen Realms.
Description[]
In their natural forms, Djinn resemble four-armed humanoids, but with cloud or smoke-like “tails” in place of legs. Known specimens have orange or red skin, and black or white hair. There are male and female Djinn, though only males have been seen thus far.
Djinn possess wish magic, which enables the hem to perform a number of feats. However, in the majority of cases this magic can only be accessed when other beings make wishes. A Djinn can also only grant three wishes to any one person. Only a Djinn of the Royal Family who marries a human on Djinn land gains the ability to grant their own wishes without limitation.
The wish magic of the Djinn is also directly tied to their land. Thus, when Djinjago was reduced to a single grain of sand, Arrakore thought all magic lost. However, using the small amount of magic available to him from that grain caused it to grow, increasing Arrakore’s powers in the process. Individual Djinn also seem to have been able to transport themselves, if no others, between realms before the Merge occurred, based on both Nadakhan and Arrakore’s travels.
A dishonorable Djinn may twist an unwary wisher's words to their own advantage. This often manifests as malicious compliance, in which the words of the wish, but not their intent, are honored. However, a wish made from one's heart, completely pure in intent, can not be twisted in this manner and must be granted in spite of the Djinn's own desires. A Djinn will follow any wish, fulfilled honorably or not, with the words “Your wish is yours to keep.”
History[]
The origins of the Djinn and their home realm are unknown. Some 200 years before the present day, the Djinn prince Nadakhan left Djinjago for Ninjago, where he pursued a career in piracy before being imprisoned in the Teapot of Tyrahn. When the Cursed Realm-sister realm to Djinjago-was destroyed, Djinjago began to crumble into ruin. Any Djinn remaining in the realm at the time apparently perished as a result.
In one timeline, Nadakhan was freed from the teapot by the sorcerer Clouse, and made his way back to Djinjago before its utter destruction. There he received the Sword of Souls from his father Khanjikhan. Using it, he attempted to recreate Djinjago in the skies above Djinjago. A wish made by Jay later reversed these events, leaving Nadakhan confined to the Teapot of Tyrahn in the resulting timeline.
One other Djinn, Arrakore, is known to have been away from Djinjago at the time of its destruction. He returned to find only a single grain of sand remaining of the realm, which he took to carrying in a vial around his neck. After the Merge, Arrakore took up residence in the resulting world. A number of Djinn artifacts also survived due to being in other realms.
Members[]
Royal Family[]
Khanjikhan[]
Khanjikhan was the father of Nadakhan.
Khanjikhan was the king of Djinjago, but became estranged from his son due to Nadakhan's piratic pursuits in the realm of Ninjago. The two were later reunited when Nadakhan returned to his home in "Enkrypted" only to find it falling apart, with Khanjikhan as the only visible surviving inhabitant. Khanjikhan explained to his son that with the destruction of the Cursed Realm, Djinjago's sister realm, Djinjago had become unstable and would share the same fate. He then gave his son the Sword of Souls, encouraging him to avenge their crumbling home. He declined the offer to depart, citing Nadakhan's own mannerisms by saying "A good captain always goes down with the ship."
A statue of Khanjikhan appeared among the artifacts housed in Borg Tower in "The Mask of Deception."
Nadakhan's mother[]
Nadakhan's mother was a female Djinn. Her name is unknown, but by some means her son came into possession of her wedding dress. This would be worn, with modifications, by Nya during her forced wedding to Nadakhan.
Nadakhan[]
Arrakore[]
Arrakore is a Djinn traveler and hero who was on a journey away from Djinjago when it was destroyed, and believes himself to be the last of his kind.
Arrakore was acquainted with Zanth, a Djinjagan dragon, prior to the both of them departing their home realm. He spoke her language, and was thus aware of her true name. Unbeknownst to him, she also survived the destruction of their home. Thus left with only a single tiny piece of his former realm, Arrakore began to lose hope. He took up residence in a cave, but left various tasks undone or unfinished as the sorrow of his situation weighed more heavily on him.
Eventually, Arrakore sensed the presence of another being from his realm, which proved to be Zanth. She was accompanied by her new friends Nya, Sora, Riyu, and Jiro. After briefly attempting to frighten them, Arrakore was surprised and delighted to see Zanth, though somewhat disdainful to learn that her Ninja companions were unaware of her real name. He also sensed Riyu's power and explained his sad history to his visitors. He was understandably less than thrilled to discover that the two Ninja had brought a curse upon themselves through the misuse of Djinn Seeker Stones, thus making them the target of a pair of Howlers.
When the creatures arrived to drain their life force, Arrakore attempted to hide, not believing he had any power or ability to contribute. However, the grain of sand that was the sole remaining piece of Djinjago reacted the hopes of his visitors and grew in size. Realizing that his own lack of hope had affected his powers, Arrakore instructed Sora to make a wish for his help. This allowed him to use wish magic, and he engaged the Howlers before destroying them in response to a wish made by Nya.
Arrakore collapsed from weakness after the battle, but soon awoke and found a renewed sense of hope and purpose. Nya expressed the hope that he might eventually be able to grow the grain back into the land of Djinjago. In gratitude for their help, Arrakore agreed to help his new friends in their search for the Dragon Core. In response to another wish, he created a compass that would lead the group to what they sought.

Trivia[]
- Given the reversal of most of the events of Skybound, it can be presumed that Khanjikhan perished in the destruction of Djinjago, with the Sword of Souls being destroyed in the process.
