Eclipso is a corrupt and powerful entity who is bound to a black diamond called the Heart of Darkness. In order to achieve his goals to unleash chaos upon the world, the black diamond must be in possession of a living being, allowing Eclipso to possess them. Among the hosts he has possessed include scientist Bruce Gordon, the vengeful Axel Montez (seeking to avenge his cousin) and the ex-wife of Ray Palmer, Jean Loring.

Inhabiting and corrupting various host bodies since the dawn of time, the malicious super-villain Eclipso has managed to spread evil and chaos throughout the ages. He was eventually trapped inside a gem called the Black Diamond but recently escaped, returning stronger than ever.
