Plot[]

In a dream, Faith recalls the Oni attacking the former Dragon Hunters in the First Realm as they were gathered about their various vehicles, including the Dieselnaut and Destiny's Wing. Despite the efforts of the Firstbourne and other dragons, the Oni were victorious, and the Firstbourne escaped to Ninjago with Faith. Faith then awakens in the Monastery of Spinjitzu, where Sensei Wu and Misako bring her up to date. The Destiny's Bounty 3.0 then returns, and the Ninja break the sad news of Cole's apparent loss to their master. Though grieving, the heroes are soon returned to focus by Emperor Garmadon, who reminds them that they have the armor of the Golden Master to use against the Oni.

Using his fire powers, Kai melts the armor and reforges the Four Golden Weapons, giving the Scythe of Quakes to Nya to wield in Cole's place. Just as he finishes the task, the Ninja are alerted to the approach of the Oni. Back at the Ninjago News Center, Cole awakens to find himself alone with the darkness encroaching. Using a remote, he is able to summon his Earth Driller, which he uses to make his way out of Ninjago City. At the Monastery, Misako takes charge of the civilians inside the building while the five Ninja, Garmadon, Wu, and Faith go out to meet the Oni in battle.

Garmadon is quick to challenge the Omega while the others engage his forces, with the Ninja benefiting from the natural aversion of the Oni towards the Golden Weapons. Nya, unfortunately, is unable to utilize the elemental power of the Scythe of Quakes, but the problem is remedied when Cole arrives and joins the battle. Despite early success against the Omega, Garmadon finds his dark powers countered by the villain, and decides to try and even the odds by undergoing transformation into a full Oni. However, he is still no match for the Omega, who senses that Garmadon's Oni nature is weakened by a desire to understand the humans he fights alongside and even be one of them.

Pressed back by sheer weight of numbers, the heroes take refuge within the Monastery, and Jay is finally moved to propose to Nya, who gladly accepts. With hope seeming lost, Lloyd looks over the mural and, spotting the scene of his comrades' first use of the Tornado of Creation, sees it as a means of achieving victory. No other options being apparent, the Ninja and Wu all launch into Spinjitzu, and even Garmadon lends his power to the act. The resulting Tornado of Creation builds in power, until all is consumed by a blinding light.

Lloyd awakens in strange surroundings and is stunned to encounter both the Golden Dragon and his own grandfather, the First Spinjitzu Master. Proud of Lloyd's response to the threat of the Oni, the master honors him and offers Lloyd a choice: join him or return to life in Ninjago. Back at the monastery, the other Ninja awaken and find Lloyd apparently dead as the Golden Weapons grow dim. However, the Green Ninja revives, and his experience is dismissed as a dream; Garmadon, having helped save Ninjago, departs. Their victory achieved, the six Ninja add their handprints to the mural as several of their allies look on, while above them the recovered Firstbourne flies through the sky.
