Monobook Search

Hi, this has been going on for at least a year now, and I was wondering if anyone could help Samdo and I out with this. Basically, a long time ago, our wiki used to do in Monobook what every other wiki does when typing in the search box- have a little suggestion box pop up, like the one in the image.

Now, for some reason, it doesn't. I recently removed content from Mediawiki:Common.js, Common.css, Monobook.js and Monobook.css, to see if anything there that was blocking it, but that didn't do anything. I've also pasted Samdo's research below, he seems to be making more progress than I ever really did. So basically, if anyone can help to get this working again, please let us know here. Thanks, NightblazeSaber 23:58, March 1, 2011 (UTC)

Currently I am trying to get the AJAX article suggest (in the search box from the sidebar in MonoBook, it normally shows article suggestions when typing a word or part of a word) working. It seems to be auto-working in that new wikia style. I have found out from here that there are article suggestion - at least there should be.

In your MonoBook preferences, tab/section "Search Options", there should be some kind of "Disable AJAX suggestions" box in the "Display options" section to tick, but there is nothing. I browsed in my preferences of random other wikis and I noticed fairly quickly that they do have such a box:

  • Psychology.wikia.com (as I said, it's a random wiki but it applies to all wikis, at least it has in my examples), in the "Search Options" tab/section does have this box.
  • In the tab/section "Editing" there is a box to activate the rich text editor (which I haven't used and don't plan to use, but it's still a difference).
  • In the tab/section "Misc" Brickipedia has a box to disable points, badges and ranking on the profile page/user page, Psychology wiki does not.

Because of that last point I suggest the reason for those differences is some kind of extension (like the achievement badges) which Brickipedia doesn't have. Do you know any way to get the missiong extension or program? I hope you can answer this, because I'm getting really desperate about this by now. If you don't, maybe ask someone who does know in your opinion (you can copy this text if you like).  Samdo994 talk contribs  16:36, February 28, 2011 (UTC)

By typing "Disable AJAX search suggestions" into a search machine, I got some suggestions: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Configuration_settings#Ajax http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgEnableMWSuggest http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgAjaxSearch Hope that helps. And yes, I guess asking wikia would be helpful too.  Samdo994 talk contribs  13:52, March 1, 2011 (UTC)
