Forums - Requirements for Users Censoring Bad Words

Recently users have been censoring bad words (swear words, and just bad words) a lot more. Don't take this wrong, because I'm all for it rather than no censoring, but the policy seems unclear about this. Bad language isn't really allowed, but it's considered OK if users censor it. Most censoring I've seen recently only covers 1 letter of the word. It makes it so that users can easily figure out what the word is, even if they don't know it. I think that the requirement for users using censored words should be that they censor at least 50% of the word. That way users who don't know it shouldn't be able to pick up, yet the user it is directed at knows it. Aslo, I think that if users are either repeatedly using censored swear words, just because they can, or if they're using any of the big, bad swear words, that they still deserve a warning. (Please don't oppose or support just one idea because of the other idea, do them separately) Drewlzoo

  • Neutral It doesn't take away the fact someone swore. Czech
    • Good point... that's one of the problems with having that in a policy. Drewlzoo
  • Why don't you put up that filter you were talking about? Swearing isn't nice, even if censored and especially if directed at another user.

    • Cuz everytime I think of it, there's no admins on, and when there are admins on, I forget about it. :P Drewlzoo
  • Nobody "deserves" a warning. Warnings are not official. They're just reminders. FB100Ztalkcontribs 19:48, April 6, 2012 (UTC)
  • Oppose Sorry but isn't censoring good? It lets someone pent their anger yet not actually hurting any one. Prisinorzero 19:58, April 6, 2012 (UTC)
  • Haven't Decided: Well, if you think about it, just not curse at all, and if they do, on chat, (the dragonball wiki has it) censor it with a heart, well here, it could be a brick. Evanf (Talk)
    • If we're going would censor it with a photo, I'd suggest this. --Berrybrick (Talk) 16:38, April 7, 2012 (UTC)
You might as well not even reference it in the first place. C535 21:16, April 8, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose - I do see it's a bad idea to even mention it, now. You might as well archive this forum, being that no one supports it, and it's kinda' stupid. :P Drewlzoo
