George[1][Note 1] is a Pirates minifigure that appeared in 1996.

Description[]

In all of his appearances, George wears a black pants; his white torso is printed with a white shirt, green vest, and two belts; and his face is printed with a black mustache, stubble, eyebrows, hair, and sideburns. In 6289 Red Beard Runner, he wears a black bandana; in 6249 Pirates Ambush and 4850307 LEGO Battles, he wears an earth orange tricorne hat; in 6296 Shipwreck Island, he wears a bright red bandana; in 6281 Pirates Perilous Pitfall, he has a black bicorne and a peg leg.

Background[]

George is a crew member of the Red Beard Runner. In the March-April 1996 The Adventures of the LEGO Maniac, Jake the Snake Blake tells George to grab the gold from the Armada Flagship.[1]

In the 1997 set 6281 Pirates Perilous Pitfall, he wears a black bicorne hat and a peg leg, giving him a similar appearance to pirate captains such as Captain Redbeard and Captain Ironhook and suggesting that George himself may have become a captain. If that is true, the set includes a shipwreck that may have been George's former ship.

In 4850307 LEGO Battles, George makes a cameo appearance in the Pirates Act 1 cutscene. In a flashback sequence, George, Black Jack Hawkins, and a third unnamed pirate bury a massive bounty of gold underneath the current location of Governor Broadside's fortress. Once their work is done, George and Black Jack turn on the third pirate and fight over possession of the treasure map, accidentally tearing it into three pieces as a result.

Notes[]

  • A similar pirate wearing differently-colored bandana and pants is seen in 6232 Skeleton Crew. In the March-April 1996 issue of LEGO Mania Magazine, this pirate asks if Skully is George,[2] suggesting that this similar pirate is not George himself.

  1. While George's appearance is not specified in the comic, this particular pirate is assumed to be George by process of elimination since the rest of the Red Beard Runner pirates are given specific names throughout this issue of LEGO Mania Magazine.
