Professor Gilderoy Lockhart was the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher in Harry Potter's second year. He was a celebrity who claimed to have defeated countless monsters and wrote his tales down, which became bestselling books. He was revealed to be a fraud by Harry and Ron Weasley. He also very bad at teaching and even worse at magic, but he only about good at memory charms. He later lost all personal information after a backfired memory charm (intended on Harry and Ron), and became a permanent resident at St. Mungo's Hospital along with Neville Longbottom's parents. Despite the fact he was slowly recovering, and the fact he could write joined-up letters three years after the incident, the chances of full recovery were very slim.
