Haradrim is a character that appears in LEGO The Lord of the Rings: The Video Game.

Background[]

The Haradrim were among the peoples of the far South of Middle-Earth, hence the often quoted name of 'Southrons'; they were a fierce people, tamers of the massive Oliphaunts and formidable warriors: dressed in red-brown livery, wearing black hoods, armed with scimitars and bows and some even riding upon horses. Their chieftains had the custom of bearing the standard of a 'Black Serpent' as they charged into battle.

In the Second Age, they came under the oppression of the King's Men - proud Númenóreans who made their settlements on the southern coasts of Middle-earth - and were forced to yield their goods. By the time of the last conflicts, the Haradrim had mingled with the descendants of these conquerors and had fallen under the Shadow, becoming cultists that paid homage to Morgoth and Sauron as their deities.

Following Sauron's downfall in the War of the Last Alliance, the Haradrim, for a brief time, did not trouble the Free Peoples of Middle-earth and even traded with the neighboring kingdom of Gondor. However, soon joined the Black Númenóreans in marching against Gondor to reclaim the haven of Umbar, although they were outmatched. Later they allied with the Variags and Easterlings to assault the Westlands: capturing port-cities and attacking their adversary, until they were yet again vanquished. Nonetheless, these southrons were still in league with the Black Númenóreans and together raided Gondor time and time again; directed by the returned Dark Power they made a risky bid to invade Ithilien, but the combined strength of the Gondorians and Rohirrim defeated them.

During the War of the Ring, the Haradrim rallied in great numbers to raise arms openly in service to Sauron once more and to bring him tribute; they were unleashed alongside the Morgul-host at the Battle of Pelennor Fields, in which one of their chieftains bearing the 'Black Serpent' was felled by King Théoden of Rohan. In the aftermath of the Enemy's ousting from Arda, the Haradrim in the western reaches of Harad reached an accord with Aragorn and accepted the position of vassals, while those in the eastern region retained their disdain for Gondor and their faith in Sauron.
