Heatwave is a brickbuilt Elemental Dragon of Lava in the Ninjago theme released in 2023.
Background[]
Hailing from the Wyldness, Heatwave found himself in the unlikely position of helping a Caregiver robot raise the young girl Wyldfyre after the pair crash-landed near him. Benevolent and kindly, Heatwave became quite fond of his young charge, watching over her and sharing the wonders of his home with her. Later, he would look on as she developed her newly acquired Elemental Power of Heat. Unfortunately, the pair were separated when Heatwave was taken captive by the Claws of Imperium and taken to that realm to have his energy drained to fuel Imperium's technology.
Undeterred, Wyldfyre made her way to Imperium, only to be briefly imprisoned herself. Freed by Lloyd Garmadon, she eventually found and freed Heatwave, and the trio then freed several other dragons held prisoner in Imperium as well. With Wyldfyre riding on his back as she had often done in the past, Heatwave charged through Imperium's city streets in a bid to find an escape route. Their path would be blocked by the Claws atop their Photac Beasts, but after a grueling battle the Ninja helped the dragons to escape through a portal beneath the city. Heatwave thus took up residence at the Monastery of Spinjitzu with Wyldfyre.
Heatwave and Wyldfyre would continue to work alongside their new friends, and traveled with them to the Temple of the Dragon Cores. When the Ninja split up to search for the Cores, Heatwave served as Mount for both Wyldfyre and Kai. The dragon would make a timely appearance as the two battled with the Lava-Tides and Imperium forces under Dorama for one of the Dragon Cores. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious injury in the process of getting the two to safety, but was healed thanks to Kai’s experience with such matters.
Heatwave would remain at the monastery with Wyldfyre even after the defeat of Empress Beatrix. Some months later, he would join the Ninja in escorting Eridany back to her fellow Mountain Dragons. Afterwards, he helped the Ninja travel to the City of Temples for the Tournament of the Sources, but was forced to depart after helping them get past the Temple Guards.
