Into the Dark is the one hundred and forty-sixth episode of Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, and the second episode of season thirteen.

Plot[]

Aided by Hailmar and the Shintaro Royal Guard, Wu and the Ninja arrive safely in the Ivory City of Shintaro. They are then brought before King Vangelis and his daughter, Princess Vania, who proves to be an avid fan of the Ninja. Cole takes an instant liking to her, but a suspicious Lloyd warns him against trusting her; Cole is quick to suspect that Lloyd is still bitter about Harumi's betrayal. Cole goes to bed, but is attacked by a strange creature, who Cole discovers is carrying a necklace that belonged to his mother.

The creature flees leaving no trace behind, leaving the guards and Cole's companions to believe that he simply had a nightmare. However, Vania, having overheard his account, admits to encountering such a creature in her youth. She then leads Cole to an entrance to supposedly abandoned mines beneath the city, from which her "imaginary friend" of long ago would emerge.

In the mines, the two find that there are many of this creature’s species, and they are all enslaved alongside another species. Cole tells Vania to warn the others, as he plans to fight the skeletons holding the creatures captive. Despite his best efforts, the vengestone in the caves nullifies his powers, and the skeletons reform once destroyed, meaning that Cole’s odds of victory are slim. This is proven once he is restrained by the skeletons, and now held captive among the creatures down below.
