John Parker Hammond, was the CEO and creator of Jurassic Park. He founded the company InGen and the Hammond Foundation. He had at least one daughter, two grandchildren (Tim and Lex Murphy), a sister (as Hammond's nephew has the surname of Ludlow, not Hammond) and a nephew, Peter Ludlow. It was revealed in Jurassic World that Hammond has died sometime ago and a memorial statue of him is built in the new park, Jurassic World. He would have appeared in the film but Richard Attenborough passed away before he could film any scenes for the film.
In 1993 he visited Dr Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler in Montana, inviting them to a mysterious island resort. He also invited Dr Ian Malcom and a lawyer, Donald Gennaro. Upon arrival in helicopter, John Hammond revealed that he had cloned dinosaurs, much to Grant’s amazement. During a meal, Ian Malcom told John his plan would never work, as prehistoric creatures were unpredictable and dangerous. John, however felt that it would be a wonderful attraction for the public, and ignored Malcom’s warnings. He promised that they would all be on board with him at the end of a tour.
Unfortunately, Dennis Nedry, a disgruntled employee, shut down the power and attempted to make off with several expensive embryos to sell to Biosyn, a rival company of Ingen. With the power off, the Tyrannosaurus escaped, killing Gennaro and injuring Malcom. Distressed about his grandchildren, he sent Robert Muldoon and Ellie to retrieve the stranded tourists, unaware of the tragedy. When Robert and Ellie only returned with Malcom, he told everyone to make for the emergency bunker, as Mr. John “Ray” Arnold was to restore the power, as Dennis had been killed. When Arnold did not return, Robert and Ellie went to rescue him, only to discover the Velociraptors had escaped. Aided by Hammond over radio, Ellie restored the power, but was attacked by a Velociraptor, which had killed Mr. Arnold. Later, he drove a jeep with Malcom to rescue Alan, Ellie and his grandchildren, who were just leaving the visitor centre, after surviving the Velociraptors. They escaped in a helicopter, and Hammond mourned the loss of his island.
Some years later, in 1997 he sent Sarah Harding to Isla Sorna, a secret Site B, where dinosaurs were living free, for research. Upon telling Ian Malcom, who was visiting, Ian got quite distressed, claiming that is was no longer a research expedition, but a rescue mission. When Malcom arrived with his team, Eddie Carr saw Ingen helicopters approaching. Confused why Hammond sent two teams, they investigated the Ingen camp, only to find it was Peter Ludlow, Hammond’s nephew, who wanted to take some dinosaurs to the mainland. Sarah and Nick Van Owen sabotaged the camp, which resulting in the destruction of both team’s camps and the death of Eddie, stranding them. Fortunately, thanks to an old communications centre, both teams escaped. Later, after a failed attempt to bring a Tyrannosaurus to the mainland, resulting in Ludlow’s death, Hammond and the government decided to make Isla Sorna a nature preserve, and forbid anyone from landing on it.
He later died of old age.
