Journey to the Lost Temple was an Adventurers-themed musical show performed at LEGOLAND California Resort's Land of Adventure, debuting in 2008 and running through 2012.
Synopsis[]
Pippin Reed welcomes the audience to the National Adventurer Museum. She attempts to unveil a time machine that she and Johnny Thunder had discovered in the Lost Temple that belonged to Cleopatra, only to discover that Lord Sam Sinister had stolen the artifact and replaced it with a cardboard cutout of himself. Lord Sinister reveals his plot to use the time machine to change history and make himself rich and powerful. Johnny Thunder arrives to stop Lord Sinister and his bumbling hired henchmen, but Lord Sinister activates the time machine and warps the heroes back in time to Ancient Egypt ("The Battle"/"Lost in Time").
Johnny Thunder and Pippin Reed find themselves in the Lost Temple. While Lord Sam Sinister still has the time machine in present day, Johnny realizes that they can find it in the past in order to get home. Johnny checks an empty sarcophagus, which begins glowing before releasing Moriah the mummy. As thanks for letting her out, Moriah volunteers to help Johnny and Pippin find the time machine by asking Cleopatra herself.
"Cleo" turns out to be a valley girl ruling over the Valley of the Kings. She reveals that she received the time machine as a gift from Julius Caesar but did not pay much attention to it since it was not jewelry, and it had been disassembled by scholars that she fired. Johnny points out that the time machine was fully assembled when he found it in the present day, and deduces that they must have been the ones to put it back together. In exchange for showing Cleo some dance moves ("Walk Like an Egyptian"), Johnny and Pippin are shown the first piece of the time machine.
They explore the temple in search of the other pieces of the time machine. Pippin is terrified when she encounters a talking snake named Slither, who keeps one of the pieces. Slither asks them for help retrieving its family from baskets ("Holding Out for a Hero"), and rewards them with the piece. Next, they go to the hieroglyphics room and find the last piece, but they need to spin the fully-assembled machine's dials in the right combination in order to make it work. The Sphinx, a self-proclaimed expert of hieroglyphics, offers to help ("The Sphinx Song"/"Hieroglyphic Rock").
However, the functional time machine sends Moriah and Cleopatra back to the museum along with Johnny Thunder and Pippin Reed, while the machine itself stays in the past. Lord Sam Sinister walks in with his time machine, which has been exhausted of energy, and Johnny demands that Sinister find a way to send Moria and Cleo back in time. By re-energizing the time machine ("Time Warp"), they successfully return Moriah and Cleo to Ancient Egypt.

Notes[]
- During the show's run, there was no official minifigure depiction of Cleopatra. The Minifigures theme would later introduce the Egyptian Queen, who is occasionally named Cleopatra in media such as The LEGO Movie. Similarly, the Roman Emperor appears to be modeled after Julius Caesar, who is mentioned by Cleopatra in this show.
- Ironically, despite Pippin Reed's portrayal as terrified of "creepy crawlies" and snakes in this show, Gail Storm was originally characterized as being unafraid of snakes and scorpions in LEGO Mania Magazine.
- Lord Sam Sinister's actor wears a prop mustache in some performances and not in other performances,[2] causing the character's appearance to vary from the original minifigure.
- Shawn Greiner, LEGOLAND's entertainment supervisor, created the show and wrote the opening song's lyrics with the help of other LEGOLAND staff. Marty Martin, who plays multiple characters in the show, wrote "The Sphinx Song".[3]
- When the show debuted in 2008, it featured two original songs: "The Battle" and "The Sphinx Song". These were replaced with two new songs "Lost in Time" and "Hieroglyphic Rock" in later years,[4] although the opening fanfare of "The Battle" is still heard when Johnny Thunder makes his entrance.[5]
