The Lava-Tides are creatures from the Ninjago theme native to the Wyldness. They are normally small (compared to humans and other beings of similar stature) with bodies made out of rock and the ability to shoot fire out of the tops of their heads.

Background[]

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

In "Wyldly Inappropriate", the Lava-Tides are noted to be a people to whom the First Spinjitzu Master entrusted one of the Dragon Energy Cores. Kai and Wyldfyre go to visit them in their village in the Wyldness, seeking to obtain the core so that it may be used to help bring an end to the MergeQuakes. Wyldfyre, being acquainted with the Lava-Tides from her time living in the Wyldyness, believes that the errand won't be an issue, claiming that the Lava-Tides love her. However, with the Lava-Tides viewing her many "pranks" against them as crimes and thus refusing to consider turning the core over to her or anyone with whom she is associated.

Kai, forced into the unlikely role of taking responsibility for the younger Elemental Master, pleads with the Lava-Tides to give Wyldfyre a chance to prove her heroic qualities. The Lava-Tides seemingly assent, demanding that Wyldfyre repair all the misdeeds previously done to their village. These include removing rotten melons, cleaning up a defaced statue of the Lava-Tides' great hero Lava-Todd, and various other items on the very lengthy "Scroll of Grievances". Eventually, the two Ninja complete their task...only for the Lava-Tides to deny them the core anyway as a means of paying back Wyldfyre with their own "prank." They then cast the core into "the Pit of No Return"; despite this, Kai and Wyldfyre succeed in retrieving it.

In "They Call It Doom", the Lava-Tides intervene as forces from Imperium attempt to seize the core, attempting to keep it from both them and the Ninja. During the ensuing conflict, the Lava-Tides unleash flaming boulders upon both parties and use their flames to pass the core between themselves. Eventually, a frustrated Wyldfyre turns her flames upon the Lava-Tides' leader, only to cause her to grow to massive size. This larger, and much more dangerous, Lava-Tide easily sweeps aside Dorama and his minions before setting her sights on the Ninja. They are saved by the timely intervention of the dragon Heatwave, who also carries them to safety, but the leader manages to inflict a serious injury upon the dragon.

Individuals

Lava-Todd

Lava-Todd was a legendary hero of the Lava-Tides, and a statue of him was erected in their village. It was vandalized by Wyldfyre in one of her many "pranks" upon the Lava-Tides. The statue remained in this condition until Kai and Wyldfyre cleaned it up during their attempt to appease the Lava-Tides.
