Samuel Sterns was a slow-witted high-school dropout who lived in the shadow of his older brother Philip Sterns who went on to be a brilliant scientist. Samuel was a working-class worker at a research facility where Samuel found himself caught in a Gamma Radiation accident. Similar to the Hulk, Red Hulk, Red She-Hulk and Abomination, Samuel developed superpowers from the radiation but unlike them who developed super-strength, Samuel developed super-intelligence. Samuel was driven to evil by his new intelligence and became a super-villain who came into conflict with the Hulk on countless occasions, often even teaming up with General Ross to defeat him.
