Life on Mars: The Show is a LEGOLAND Parks live show that ran at LEGOLAND California Resort, LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, and LEGOLAND Billund Resort in 2001. It is based upon the Life on Mars theme.

Synopsis[]

BB is trapped in a space storm that leaves him stranded on Mars. Before he can asphyxiate from a lack of air, he is rescued by two Martians: Altair and Cassiopeia. Although they had difficulty overcoming their language barrier, they quickly become friends. BB becomes hungry, and the Martians attempt to feed him a can of dog food and a carnivorous hamburger. When he asks what they eat, the Martians play a video for him explaining that their sustenance comes from biodium, but dust storms sap their energy. A meteor storm occurs, and they find biodium inside one of the meteor boulders. After a dance number, the Martians send BB home.

LIFE ON MARS
A NEW 'OUT OF THIS WORLD' EXPERIENCE

Red dust storms mixed with meteor showers followed by severe atmospheric changes are rolling in July 21st to LEGOLAND Windsor. The release of Life on Mars is the first show to debut globally at all three LEGOLAND Parks, (LEGOLAND® Billund, LEGOLAND® Windsor and LEGOLAND® California) and spawned from the LEGO Life on Mars toy line. "Think 'Blue Man Group' style or 'Stomp' style for the kids," explains Sarah Gibbon, global show producer who oversees all aspects of this show at every Park. "With Life on Mars we are giving families an experience that rivals anything currently available at theme parks."

The cast of Life on Mars consists of three characters from the LEGO toy line, BB -- an Earth astronaut-- and two LEGO Martians -- Altair and Cassiopeia. In order to survive and help his craft BB must find Biodium. On "the red planet" Biodium is the source of energy and life, which can be found within meteors on the surface of the planet. Throughout the search BB overcomes his fears of Martians, adapts to the new planet and learns how to communicate through a shared language. This language includes a combination of percussive sounds, energetic movement and a LEGOLAND Parks original soundtrack.

The average temperature on Mars is –67 F (-55 C), however the 600 seat LEGO Imagination Theatre, located in LEGOLAND Windsor’s Imagination Centre, will be a bit more comfortable. The stage is based on the Aero Tube Base Station in the Life on Mars toy line, the first time a show’s backdrop has mirrored a toy line, and will have a space age industrial LEGO look. The costume design is remaining faithful to the product and essentially transforming the LEGO mini-characters from the Life on Mars toy set boxes to the stage. This 20-minute show will fuel children’s imaginations and generate an interest in space and Mars. While the average Martian year is 687 Earth days this show is scheduled to run until 4th November 2001, so hurry.

Notes[]

  • Altair was played by Cory Johnson,[1][2] who uploaded the only known video footage of the show to his YouTube channel.[3]
  • BB was played by David Gentry.[4][5] He commented that he had fun doing the show, got a trip to London, and worked with great people.[3]
  • In August 2012, the show's Cassiopeia costume was repurposed in LEGOLAND Windsor for a parade.[6]
