Long Live the King is the one hundred and seventieth episode of Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, and the sixth episode of season fourteen.

Plot[]

Pursued by Ripper Sharks, Nya and Maya flee through the Tartarus Trench. With their APS suits unable to outrun the swift sea creatures, Nya calls upon her powers to great effect. Jay and Lloyd then arrive in time to help drive off the last shark, unaware that the Hydro Bounty's refloating has been detected by Glutinous and reported to an angry Prince Kalmaar. King Trimaar's Maaray Guards discover the ship's presence as well and take the crew into custody for violating Merlopian territory.

Brought before the angry king, the Ninja explain how they came to be in Trimaar's domain, and the king is horrified to learn of Kalmaar's actions and his attempts to awaken Wojira. Kalmaar arrives and admits to his actions, asserting that he is doing what Trimaar should have done by acting to destroy the surface-dwellers. When Trimaar denounces him, Kalmaar strikes down his own father and two guards, before crying out to the rest of his people and accusing the Hydro Bounty's crew of the attack. As the group flees, Prince Benthomaar arrives to find his badly wounded father, while Kalmaar sets out to capture the fleeing Ninja.

The Hydro Bounty crew soon find themselves in a dead-end, and don breathing masks as the palace is flooded in an attempt to prevent their escape. When a pair of Ripper Sharks close in, Zane erects a wall of ice as they desperately try to escape. Benthomaar, carrying Trimaar in an effort to find help, is told by the dying king that Kalmaar was responsible for his injuries rather than the land-dwellers. With his dying breaths, Trimaar urges Bentho to help the Ninja and stop Kalmaar, before declaring his love for the adopted son who has proven truer than his son by blood. Gripe reports the apparent demise of the heroes to Kalmaar, who dons his father's crown and proclaims himself to be king.

Notes[]

  • Zane dons a breathing mask based on his minifigure wearing one in the Seabound wave of sets, despite the fact that he does not need to breath.
