Imperial Stormtroopers who were onboard the Star Destroyer Chimera when it was dragged to the planet Peridea by a pod of purrgil, the Night Troopers were the forces under Grand Admiral Thrawn. In the chaos of their arrival and the years they spent stranded on the extra-galactic planet, the Night Troopers' armor suffered damage that was repaired what resources they could find on Peridea. They also were attended to by the Great Mothers, a trio of Nightsisters whom Thrawn found on the planet. In token of this, the Night Troopers also wore bands of red fabric around their limbs and torsos.

The Night Troopers were present when Morgan Elsbeth and her forces arrived on Peridea at long last to help Thrawn, his surviving personnel, and the Great Mothers return to their home galaxy. A group of them later volunteered to fight a delaying action against Ahsoka Tano, Ezra Bridger, and Sabine Wren as the three attempted to prevent Thrawn from making his escape. Though they were soon cut down by the Force-sensitive, lightsaber-wielding warriors, the Great Mothers' dark magic allowed the bodies of these Night Troopers to rise again and resume the fight. The other Night Troopers were aboard the Chimera as it traveled back to its galaxy of origin, with stowaway Ezra donning a set of Night Trooper armor and using it to affect his escape from the destroyer after they returned to familiar space.

• The Night Troopers' name is obviously a reference to both "Nightsisters" and "Stormtroopers".
