Ninjago is a Theme that was released in January 2011. Some sets contain a spinner that can be used in a battle game called "Spinjitzu".
Story
Long ago, the first master of Spinjitzu created the world of Ninjago. The master formed the world using the four mystic weapons of the elements: the Nunchucks of lightning, the Shurikens of ice, the Scythe of quakes, and the Sword of fire. The master then entrusted the world he had made and the four mystical weapons with his two sons, Sensei Wu and Garmadon. His sons promised to protect the secrets of the weapons. However, Lord Garmadon was consumed by darkness and greed, and he to take the power of the weapons for himself. After a great battle with his brother he was banished to the underworld forever more.
But his evil was only made stronger by death- he became the ruler of the underworld, and forged alliances with the skeletons that lived there. He plans to once again try to take the four weapons of power. But Sensei Wu has found four young ninjas, Cole, Jay, Kai, and Zane, that are prepared to learn the ways of Spinjitzu. Only they can stop the dark lord.[1]
It is to be complemented with the release of a video game, LEGO Battles: Ninjago.

Spinjitzu
- Description
The game Spinjitzu is also a fighting style in the world of Ninjago where the characters spin and become tornadoes to defeat their enemies, but this is about the LEGO version where the Minifigures are placed on bases and spun like tops. You can customize your weapons, spin your top to battle, and each of the weapons or minifigures has different abilities. On the other hand, there are a few differences. You use ability cards in Spinjitzu. In LEGO the whole principle is to build new things for your world.
According to a Ninjago poster in the Jan-Feb 2011 Lego Club Magazine, the goal is to knock your opponent's weapon out of their hands. It also says that the cards either power up your spinner, or sabotages your opponent's.
Notes
- On the Ninjago website it says, "Calling all Ninja! Lord Garmadon is on a mission: collect all four Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu and, ultimately, rule the world. Can you stop him?"
- The ninja Minifigures are similar to the Ninja from Collectible Minifigures.
- The Ninjago website now has profiles on the ninjas.
- On Nickelodeon, a commercial stated a movie was coming soon. Also, it revealed the voices of the ninjas, and it also was revealed that "Ninjago" is pronounced "Nin-JAGO".
- The Ninjago spinner minifigures and accessories are not made with LEGO's standard abs plastic. Instead, they are made with a cheaper Chinese plastic, just like the ones in the Minifigures theme.
- On the list of notable guests to Garmadon's Dark Fortress, it lists Bob the Ummm Barbarian.
