R-3PO is a Star Wars minifigure released in 2011, based on a red protocol droid from the Star Wars universe.
Background
R-3PO or Ar-Threepio, was a protocol droid left at Echo Base on Hoth by the smuggler Chaz. Knowing that the Empire frequently programmed droids for espionage, Hoth security chief Major Palo Torshan had R-3PO reprogrammed to seek out Imperial spy droids.
