"Oh no! I'm melting, me-e-e-lting! ...Oh wait! I mean, I'm solidifying, solidifying! What a world! "
―Sandman in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes

Sandman is a Marvel Super Heroes minifigure who appears in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes.

Description

Sandman has laid-back, brown light hair with matching eyebrows. He wears a bright green shirt decorated with horizontal stripes in a darker shade. His muscles show through the shirt. He wears dark tan pants and a belt on his legs.

Background

When there was a snow day, Agent Phil Coulson ordered Spider-Man and his team (Nova, Iron Fist, Power Man, and White Tiger) to attend winter survival S.H.I.E.L.D. training. Spider-Man and his team decided to ditch the training and go to an island Nova found in the classified section of the S.H.I.E.L.D. database. While on the island they met a little boy named Sandy and he wanted to play with them, so they eventually met Sandy's older brother Flint Marko. Later they figure out that Sandy and Flint are the same being, that they shouldn't be there, and that they had to leave.

But Flint didn't want his new playmates to leave, so he took the Quinjet, placed it on a giant sand platform, and erected a giant sand labyrinth. While Spider-Man and his team were in it, they found out that Flint Marko was an average criminal that had an accident happen which turned his body into living sand and Coulson and Nick Fury arrested him and left him on the island alone.

As the team managed to escape the island, Sandman hid in Spider-Man's outfit, and crashed the ship into the frozen Hudson River. As Sandman could do a lot of damage if he reached New York, Spider-Man ordered Iron Fist to destroy the ice, but it failed, so he ordered Nova to use his blasts to heat up Sandman, which turned him into glass.

Sandman was then taken into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody and placed in a spinning hourglass to prevent him from reforming, while Spider-Man and his team were scrubbed down.

Mainstream Comics

In the mainstream marvel comic books, William Baker (alias Flint Marko) was a small time criminal who escaped from an island prison. On the run from the police, Baker hid on a nuclear testing center to escape detection. While hiding, baker was caught unaware when a nuclear device exploded catching him in the blast. Finding his body, transformed by the nuclear blast, into sand that he could control at will, Baker became the criminal known as the Sandman.

Sandman has battled Spider-Man many times, but has also fought the Fantastic Four as a member of the Frightful Four. He was also one of the original members of Doctor Octopus's Sinister Six, and has joined many later incarnations of the Sinister Six.

He is most commonly defeated by water, which causes him to lose control of his sandy body.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes

Sandman allies with the Abomination to hold Grand Central Station hostage for a couple of cosmic bricks (The Silver Surfer's broken up surfboard). The Hulk and Iron Man show up to stop them. The Hulk managed to defeat the Abomination, but Sandman grew too powerful for them. They were saved, however, when Spider-Man showed up and built a water cannon to defeat Sandman. S.H.I.E.L.D. then arrived and and arrested Sandman and the Abomination.

It is hinted that Sandman and the Abomination were hired by someone as the Abomination said that "they should have made me supervisor here", but is unknown who at this point.
