In the Cloud Kingdom, the Writers of Destiny are discussing the changes that have occurred since one of their members, Euphrasia, proved to be the new Elemental Master of Wind. However, their discussion is interrupted when their quills suddenly stop working. Examining the situation, Suetonius recalls a prophecy that such an occurrence foretells a terrible event. As if summoned by these words, Lord Ras appears with his Wolf Clan in tow.
In Imperium, Percival Tartigrade is likewise discussing changes, this time anticipating all that he and his fellow Imperians cans do now that Empress Beatrix is gone. However, he is interrupted when a figure falls from the sky into the nearby desert, and soon discovers that it is none other than Euphrasia. At the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Lloyd explains his visions to the other Ninja and Mr. Frohicky, and how they seem to foretell an ominous "Blood Moon." As the friends discuss troubling recent developments, Sora suggests that they return to the antiques store Cinder robbed to find out more.
Some of the group head to talk to the shop owner, a Merlopian named Fedulian, who is reluctant to share any information with the Ninja. However, by observing him from hiding, they learn about his Serpentine contact Hantro and decide to pay her a visit next. Sora is able to recognize a piece of graffiti on the wall behind Hantro in the video call, having been the one who drew it. Sure enough, the group encounter Hantro as she's attempting to leave with some merchandise of dubious legality.
After Hantro briefly attempts to find an artifact in her stock that can drive the Ninja off, she admits that she collects unattended artifacts and sells them to others. When questioned about the mallet, she reveals that it's supposed to be connected to "the Gong of Shattering", a source of great power from the Wyldness. Those who wear the Wolf Mask, if they are near to the gong when it is strong, can have their inner goodness "shattered" and thus gain access to forbidden and dangerous powers. No sooner do the investigatosr reunite with the rest of their friends at the monastery when Percival arrives with Euphrasia in tow.
Euphrasia describes the Wolf Clan attack on the Cloud Kingdom, with Euphrasia's attempt to defend it finding her overmatched by Cinder, thus leading to her landing outside Imperium while trying to reach the monastery for help. Euphrasia and the Ninja quickly set out for the Cloud Kingdom aboard the Destiny's Bounty 5.0 and find the location unnervingly quiet. Finding the Writers of Destiny, they soon find that they are being forced to translate texts in an ancient, "evil" language. They also find Suetonius, who reveals that Lord Ras was the one who cursed the Scroll-Worms previously.
Upon learning that Ras is looking for information about the Blood Moon, Suetonius realizes that Ras seeks to perform a ritual to free the Forbidden Five, a group of evil Elemental Masters who terrorized the realms before being defeated centuries ago. The Ninja and writers are then confronted by the Wolf Clan, including Ras and Jordana, whom Sora-as usual-fails to recognize. Ras employs the Gong of Shattering, but the Ninja are able to hold their own even when Cinder appears. However, Ras is unconcerned, and the reason becomes clear after Cinder dons a Wolf Mask as is affected by the Gong of Shattering's power.
Cinder, now infused with power, begins performing a dark form of Spinjitzu created by the Forbidden Five: Shatterspin. With this new ability, he proves more than a match for the entire team of Ninja, and injures Wyldfyre's leg. Outmatched, the Ninja realize that they have no choice but to retreat aboard the Bounty. They are thus forced to leave the Cloud Kingdom under Ras' domination, while wondering how they are supposed to counter the menace of Shatterspin.
