Speed Racer was a subtheme of Racers released in 2008 and discontinued the same year. Based on the film of the same name, which in turn was based on the 1967 anime of the same name by Tatsunoko Productions, it was a small line featuring only four sets, since the film was a box-office flop. The vehicles are drawn mainly from the pure speed-racing segments of the film, with only Cruncher Block's truck featuring any of the hidden weapon upgrades the cars are seen using at some points on-screen.

- This is the first licensed theme to be based on an anime (though this theme isn't based on the anime itself). One Piece is the second licensed theme based on anime, though, much like Speed Racer, the theme is based on a live action adaptation of the anime instead of the anime itself.
- Speed Racer later made a brief cameo appearance in The LEGO Movie. The 8158 Speed Racer & Snake Oiler set made a brief appearance in the movie too.
