BrickLink is an official source[]

PeabodySam, BrickLink is an official source as it is owned by LEGO. Just saying. --Bjsjkw (Talk) 6:03 PM (UTC)

Yes, it was recently acquired by LEGO in 2019, but it is a site that has been run by fans for years. Any terminology used by BrickLink should not be regarded as official (or, at bare minimum, taken with a grain of salt), especially if it predates LEGO's acquisition in 2019 and conflicts with LEGO's own official terminology, as is the case with 5003082 (a 2015 set with a BrickLink name that doesn't match LEGO Shop's description).
Also note that in the FAQ, BrickLink states that while LEGO's official data will supplement and improve BrickLink's catalog, the website is still open to user contributions for inclusivity (FAQ 30), and not all nomenclature will be readily harmonized due to requiring significant time/energy (FAQ 31), indicating that BrickLink may continue to use unofficial terminology instead of being guaranteed to always adhere to LEGO's official nomenclature.
Therefore, I will always advise anyone to check the original sources (i.e. LEGO themselves) before relying on BrickLink for information. --PeabodySam (talk) 18:15, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
