Plot[]
Maya proves to be a domineering houseguest and would-be mentor as she micromanages various aspects of Nya's life, from the state of her room to what she eats. After a disastrous "training" session, Nya appeals to Wu and Misako, imploring them to find some means of making her mother leave. Wu reminds her that Maya is the most knowledgeable person about the Water element, and Misako encourages Nya to give Maya a chance. They also suggest approaching Kai for help, dismissing her protests that he undoubtedly enjoys Maya's attention. Nya proves to be correct, as Maya caters to her son while he and Ray enjoy themselves playing videogames.
At a loss, Nya approaches Lloyd and Cole in the vehicle bay as they are finishing up repairs resulting from one of her losses of control. From them, she learns that Zane and P.I.X.A.L. have gone out on a mission, doing so without telling her because it involves a water rescue. The pair, traveling in the ShuriCopter and Kaiju Mech, are regretting not telling her but soon become distracted when they see a ship being attacked by a giant octopus. Puzzled by the usually gentle creature's aggressive behavior, P.I.X.A.L. soon becomes unwillingly embroiled in grappling with the creature while Zane saves the sailors from the capsized boat.
In the midst of the rescue, a mysterious energy pulse erupts from the ocean, shorting out Zane and P.I.X.A.L.'s vehicles, which leaves P.I.X.A.L.'s mech sinking into the depths of the sea. The pulse travels to the mainland and causes several more watery eruptions at the monastery, all of which Nya feels responsible for. However, after safely restarting their vehicles, Zane and P.I.X.A.L. return with news of the pulse, which they believe to be affecting Nya's powers and the sea life and have traced to the deepest known point of the Endless Ocean: the Tartarus Trench. After recalling that P.I.X.A.L. had constructed a submarine, the Hydro Bounty, some years prior, Wu informs the Ninja and P.I.X.A.L. that they will be going to investigate.
