Recovering from his clash with Acronix, Wu tells the ninja about his history with the Time Twins, who were once Elemental Masters whom Wu fought alongside during the war against the Serpentine. However, after the banishment of Arcturus and the end of the conflict, the Hands of Time felt that their mastery of that element gave them the right to rule over Ninjago. Their powers and skills allowed them to triumph over their fellow Elemental Masters, including Kai and Nya's parents Ray and Maya, until the Elemental Masters forged the Time Blades from Chronosteel and stripped the two of their powers. Wu and Garmadon then opened a time vortex to scatter the blades across time and prevent them from ever falling into the wrong hands, only for Acronix and Krux to enter the vortex in pursuit. Krux was thought to have vanished forever, while through unknown means Wu determined that Acronix would be returning forty years after his disappearance; before the ninja can ask more, the weary Wu falls asleep, and they reluctantly turn their attention towards continuing their move into the Temple of Airjitzu.
Elsewhere, Acronix is marveling over the advances in technology over his forty year absence, something that Krux-who spent that same time disguised as Dr. Saunders-holds in contempt, desiring to revert the world back to its pre-industrial state. To that end, he reveals the Vermillion, a host of snakes capable of molding together inside suits of armor to become humanoid warriors, and sends one to attack the unveiling of Cyrus Borg's latest product. The Ninja learn of the attack shortly after Nya confesses to Jay her reluctance to give up her old identity of Samurai X, and confront the menace only to find themselves at a loss as to how to defeat it, particularly when the Time Twins unleash two more. Fortunately, Jay and Nya are able to combine their powers to drive the snakes off, but Cyrus Borg is abducted after Zane attempts to get him to safety and the Titanium Ninja is left offline.
