Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

Akita tells Lloyd of her people, the Formlings, and their peaceful existence in the Formlings' Village. She and her brother, Kataru, anticipated gaining their own animal forms, though she feared that they might not gain them. However, on the eve of their Choosing, a rite in which they will gain their forms, the village was visited by General Vex, the only Formling known to have not gained an animal form. The bitter self-exile demanded that the Formlings submit to him and his Ice Emperor, but was refused and departed.

Akita and Kataru embarked on their journey of choosing, and after some time found their animal forms despite Akita's fears that she might turn out like Vex. She gained the ability to become a three-tailed white wolf, while Kataru gained the form of a massive bear. Unfortunately, their joy was short-lived, as they returned home to find the other Formlings frozen by the power of Boreal the Ice Dragon as the Ice Emperor and Vex looked on. The beast then attacked Kataru, whom Akita came to believe was lost to her along with their people.

Left to wander the wilds of the Never-Realm alone, Akita swore vengeance upon those who harmed her people, and makes that point clear to Lloyd when he tries to persuade her that they have the same goal.

Spoilers end here.
