Plot[]

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

In the portal room beneath the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Zane is in the midst of a discussion with Mr. Frohicky when Cole and the Finders emerge from the portal gate. Both Ninja soon engage the pair of Wolf Mask Warriors who follow Cole's group, forcing them back through the gate. Unobserved by either of them, a glowing golden orb then deactivates the gate, preventing any further pursuit. Zane brings Cole up to speed on what's transpired since they last met, and Bonzle finally explains why Lord Ras is after her: she's actually an ancient magical spell.

Meanwhile, the other Ninja put on a display of their skills for Rontu and Egalt, employing their Elemental Powers, various fighting skills, and the mechs Sora created for herself and Kai. Having witnessed their performance, the two masters inform their new pupils that before they can learn Rising Dragon technique, they must reach the rank of Third Fang Ninja. Rontu, who is the instructor for First Fang students, takes Sora and Riyu under her tutelage while Kai, Lloyd, Nya, and Arin go with Egalt. To her dismay, Wyldfyre is told to continue resting her injured leg; Rontu also explains that Wyldfyre's Elemental Power is Heat, not Fire like Kai's.

Back at the monastery, Bonzle explains that she was able to sense the falling of the spell that kept her and the other Finders trapped within the Land of Lost Things. She had previously refrained from telling her friends about her true nature for fear of how they would react. However, at the urging of Cole, Geo, and Zane, she begins to tell her story using shadow puppets she has had ready for some time. Her account of Egalt and Rontu and a sorceress from the realm of Mysterium, who worked together to defeat and imprison Forbidden Five in a place even more inescapable than the Departed Realm.

Bonzle was the spell created to affect this banishment, but after the Forbidden Five's defeat she continued to exist rather than disappearing. Wandering the realms for centuries, she eventually arrived at a waterfall where she encountered Master Wu. Meanwhile, Rontu is helping both Sora and Riyu both to learn Spinjitzu, though Sora is somewhat skeptical given Riyu's current inability to fly. To her surprise, Sora learns from Rontu that dragons are capable of performing Spinjitzu, leaving the master confident that she can teach Riyu.

Egalt, meanwhile, explains the nature of Shatterspin, which focuses purely on strength-to the other Ninja as a disgruntled Wyldfyre watches from a distance. He goes on to explain that Motion has the potential, if used properly, to overcome mere strength. Rising Dragon, as he explains, involves connecting the constant motion within oneself to the motion of the universe. Bonzle, continuing her story, recounts how Wu recognized her for what she was and was also the first being she met who could actually perceive her.

Wu helped Bonzle understand her feelings, sympathizing with her loneliness after his own misfortunes with Garmadon. He then explained how he had found comfort in the companionship of others and encouraged Bonzle to do the same. At his suggestion she took on a physical form, choosing the appearance of a skeleton due to having once felt empty. Back with the Dragon Masters, Sora and Riyu's training is progressing, though it suffers a brief interruption from a badly disguised Wyldfyre.

Egalt supervises the training of the other four Ninja, though he becomes frustrated when Kai and Nya begin to bicker over a near miss. Unfortunately, Arin struggles with his exercises, and Egalt contemplates demoting him to the First Fang class but relents after Arin pleads with him. At the monastery, Bonzle concludes her story, and Cole and Geo assure her that knowing the truth of her identity doesn't change how they feel about her. However, Zane fears that since Bonzle banished the Forbidden Five, she could be used to bring them back.

With some discussion, the group decide that their best hope to protect Bonzle is to seek out her creator. Meanwhile, Ras continues to oversee Cinder's training in Shatterspin and Jordana's efforts to locate Bonzle. He is interrupted by a communication from his master and passes on the instructions to his underlings. They are to choose five of the Writers of Destiny to be offered as a sacrifice during the Ritual of the Blood Moon.
