Dorama gloats at his apparent success in stealing the Dragon Core obtained by Kai and Wyldfyre, but the two Elemental Masters quickly call a halt to his monologuing. Unfortunately, his energy-draining scepter proves able to negate their abilities, but his second attempt at a speech is interrupted by the Lava-Tides. Ninja, Imperium forces, and Lava-Tides are soon engaged in a game of keep away with the Core, with the Lava-Tides employing flaming boulders. Elsewhere, Nya and Sora and their dragon companions prepare to take leave of Arrakore, with whom they have been celebrating their victory over the Howlers. Though his restored powers are still limited, Arrakore is able to grant Nya's wish to create a magical wayfinder to lead them to the Dragon Core they are seeking.
On board the Destiny's Bounty, Lloyd and Arin finally arrive at the Mother Garden, hiding place of the third Dragon Core. Making their way through the strange and beautiful location, the pair soon locate the core, apparently unguarded, atop a pedestal. However, Lloyd prevents Arin from just seizing the artifact, reminding him that the cores were entrusted to various parties for safekeeping. His instincts prove wise, as the core proves to be guarded by Mucoids, who were waiting to see whether the visitors would ask permission to take the core.
Zant-Tanz, general of the Mucoid Warriors, explains that his people have been guarding the core for generations, awaiting the day when a hero would arrive to take it. In response to their request, he grants the pair the core, and then notes that someone else attempted to take it without acting. This proves to be none other than Rapton, currently encased in a blob of slime and sentenced to be thrown into "doom mucus" for his crime. Back in the Lava-Tides' Village, Kai again tries to convince the Lava-Tides to turn over the Dragon Core, but Wyldfyre's previous misdeeds against them leave them unwilling to trust her or any of her allies. Wyldfyre manages to snatch the core and refuses to pass it to Kai, only to lose it to Dorama who loses it in turn to the Lava-Tides.
Despite Kai's efforts to persuade her to work with him, Wyldfyre is unwilling, and ends up using her power on one of the Lava-Tides after it obtains the Core. However, this has the unexpected attack of causing the creature to grow to an immense size. Nya and Sora's quest leads them to a strange dumping ground of random objects, with more being added by strange geysers. Then then spot twofigures who begin running from them, forcing them to follow.
Back at the Mother Garden, Lloyd and Arin reluctantly give in to Rapton's pleas for help, unwilling to see him executed in spite of his past behavior. In response to their inquiries, Zant-Tanz reveals that a prisoner may be pardoned if someone walks the Impossible Path on their behalf. Lloyd agrees to do so in accordance with Ninja tradition, despite Arin's own skepticism over the matter, and Zant-Tanz leads them towards the path. Elsewhere, the enlarged Lava-Tide knocks Dorama and his "stagehands" aside, but is prevented from crushing Kai and Wyldfyre by teh timely arrival of Heatwave.
With the dragon's help, the pair are able to escape the village with the core, though Dorama assures his minions that their conflict is not over. Lloyd embarks on the Impossible Path, and Zant-Tanz is stunned when Lloyd meets him and Arin at the end of the path completely unscathed. As it turns out, the Impossible Path is only truly dangerous to the snail-like Mucoids, so the path is in no way harmful to them. Rapton is thus freed to go; typically, he begins blasting the Mucoids and then steals the dragon core and runs off.
Unexpectedly, Rapton is taken down by a pair of agents from "the Administration", who disappear through a strange portal with the Dragon Core and force Lloyd and Arin to follow them before it closes. In the Wyldness, Kai and Wyldfyre discover that Heatwave was injured in his battle with the giant Lava-Tide after he lands and then collapses. Nya and Sora's pursuit of the strangers is interrupted by a massive figure made out of rock who begins attacking the two Ninja. However, he recognizes Nya's Spinjitzu, and Nya suddenly realizes that their attacker is none other than her long missing friend and fellow Ninja, Cole.
Dorama's line of "there is nothing you can acquire that I cannot confiscate" is similar to the line "there is nothing you can possess which I cannot take away" spoken by Belloq in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.
