Thomas & Friends are a DUPLO theme based on the Thomas the Tank Engine franchise and The Railway Series books created by Rev. W. Awdry. The theme began in 2005 in the United States and was later released in 2007 in the United Kingdom and ran until 2010 when the theme was discontinued because HIT Entertainment signed a deal to MEGA BLOKS, LEGO's Canadian rival, to make construction sets based on Thomas & Friends.[1]
