There is only a month before Thor The Dark World is released in theatres. Typically, they release Lego sets before the movies, right? Likewise, pictures of sets tend to be leaked beforehand, too. We have seen none. Is there any chance we will see Thor TDW sets, or is it beyond hope?
Also, if they are not making Thor sets, why not? The most obvious answer is that they have already released their limit of Marvel Superheroes sets this year - Ultimate Spiderman and Iron Man 3.
Another idea I have is that Lego is unable to make Thor TDW sets, because of the Dark Elves. Perhaps TLC has some sort of agreement with the New Line Cinema/Middle-earth Enterprises that they cannot create any elf characters while they are still producing LOTR/Hobbit sets. They have made Collectible Minifigure elves, but maybe there are restrictions about elves from other Licensed Themes. What do you thing of Malekith, Algrim, and the other Dark Elves ears being the reason for no Thor TDW sets? I was really hoping for Thor sets, because I thought they'd go well with my LOTR/Hobbit sets.
I really wanted a Thor the dark world set because my favourite Marvel superhero is Thor, I love elves and the set with Thor in it already is past my limits of payment for LEGO. Very disappointed in whoever thought it would be a good idea to not make LEGO Thor set. It's even revealed that they will be making Captain America the Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy sets.
If they only did one set, similar in size to the TDKR set, it would include Thor, Loki, and Malekith.
Honestly, the minifig I want the most is Algrim, because I want a dark elf that looks like a drow (Dungeons & Dragons dark elf). This is unlikely to happen for three reasons. 1. TLC doesn't usually make a whole lot of ethnically diverse minifigs, for whatever reason. 2. Algrim, I think, will have black skin more so than dark brown (like Nick fury and War Machine), which causes its own sets of problems - does it look too much like "blackface?" Can you even see any facial features like eyes and mouth? etc. 3. ***SPOILER*** Algrim will turn into Kurse, who looks different, at some point in the film. If a set includes Algrim or Kurse, they are gonna pick Kurse I bet.
Obviously, getting Odin, Jane Foster, Sif, the Warriors Three (Hogun would be the first skin-colored Asian since... Indiana Jones?), Hiemdall (another African American, or should I say African-Asgardian?), and generic dark elves in a set would be great but, in a three-fig set, they are gonna pick Thor, Loki, and Malekith, hands down.
EDIT: I also want to say I am disappointed that Malekith is played by a white guy with half his face scarred or burnt. He ought to be a black guy (like a drow) with half of his face bluish-white necrotic flesh because... he lives half in the realm of the dead? I think?
There's absolutely no reason that licensing with New Line would prevent them from making LEGO elves. Dark Elves are a staple of Norse mythology, not just Tolkien's world. They aren't something you can put an all-encompassing trademark on.
I believe the Superhero agreement is only one movie per year per company. Marvel chose Iron Man 3 because it was probably the more profitable option. This is also why we get GOTG sets nut not CA:TWS sets this year.
