Egalt and Rontu continue their efforts to train most of the Ninja as Wyldfyre observes, while Bonzle discusses the prospect of finding her creator with Cole, Geo, and Zane. Bonzle is somewhat concerned, fearing that the sorceress won't regard her as a person; Cole does his best to reassure her. With some discussion, it's decided that Geo, Fritz, and Spitz will remain behind at the Monastery of Spinjitzu while the others set off for Mysterium. Unfortunately, Fritz and Spitz manage to get themselves into trouble when they hop into Sora's old mech only to lose control of it.
Fortunately, Cole is able to bring a stop to things using his elemental mech, which had been in storage at the monastery. Cole brings the compressed mech with him as he, Zane, and Bonzle head to the dragon caves to fly Jiro. Unfortunately, they quickly run into an obstacle: none of them know how to get to Mysterium. Meanwhile, Arin is struggling with self-doubt over his difficulties in mastering Spinjitzu and the pressure of having to save the world. While encouraging Arin, Lloyd admits his own concerns over his recurring, uncontrollable visions.
At the same time, Egalt pits Kai and Nya against each other in an exercise, but their sibling rivalry prevents them from achieving the harmony he's trying to teach them. Egalt isn't the only one who's frustrated, as Wyldfyre continues to bemoan her injuries. Bonzle, Cole, and Zane visit the Crossroads hoping to find a map to Mysterium, and despite Zane's misgivings approach the trader Fedulian. He provides them with a map, but after they leave he makes a call to a mysterious party to warn them of approaching "guests."
The trio are soon flying on Jiro's back but run into a noxious cloud above a desert and are forced to the ground. Back with the Dragon Masters, Rontu continues Sora and Riyu's instruction, and encourages the pair in their insecurities. Elsewhere, Wyldfyre approaches Egalt, trying to warm up the crotchety old dragon. Cole's party soon discovers that the map they were given was a trick, with the directions disappearing from it as they ponder what to do next.
Soon it is Lloyd and Arin's turn to compete in one of Egalt's exercises, but Arin ends up losing control and sending several stones flying, one of which hits Egalt in the eye. Now half-blinded, Egalt angrily sends a contrite Arin to the First Fang class. Cole's party, traveling through the desert, stumble across what appears to be a well. However, the sand beneath it erupts to reveal Dorama's samurai puppet, and after being knocked out in battle with it the four awake to find themselves among several other captives of the deranged showman himself.
As Dorama explains, he has established an "Academy for Acting", with Fedulian giving people maps to lead them into Dorama's grasp so he can "recruit" them as "students." Fortunately, Bonzle manages to escape the Imperium energy field Dorama is using to imprison them, since it's not built to confine a living spell. She then lowers the field, allowing her fellow captives to escape. Dorama unleashes his puppet and several repurposed Imperium Droids, but Jiro carries the others to safety while ole deploys his mech to deal with the puppet. Unfortunately, the automaton is greatly improved since Dorama first used it, and even Cole is hard pressed to deal with it.
Thankfully, Zane and Cole are able to enact a plan to take down the puppet, and then allow Dorama's former captives to take him with them as they head back for civilization. Even better, Dorama's research of the area around his "academy" gives Cole's party an idea where to head next. Sure enough, they pass through a portal, only to find themselves in a strange environment surrounding what appears to be the Monastery of Spinjitzu.
