Plot[]

Kai and Wyldfyre are stuck in a death trap, at the mercy of a group of angry Skulkin. The Bone King and his Bone Hunters and Bone Warriors accuse the pair of stealing their sacred gems. The two fire wielders manage to escape the pit, but find themselves facing the blades of the still angry skeletons. Meanwhile, at the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Zane is investigating the portal beneath the monastery in the hopes of locating his missing friends, most notably Pixal. Mr. Frohicky tries to provide assistance, and when Zane expresses the need for a wyconium coil for his scanner, Mr. Frohicky suggests visiting a location Zane has yet to experience: the Crossroads.

At Frohicky's suggestion, Zane disguises himself and the pair visit the Crossroads Junkyard, which is now under the ownership of Kreel. Unfortunately, she refuses to part with a coil-which she has plenty of-without coins, forcing the two to head into town to earn some money. Meanwhile, Wyldfyre turns out to have been responsible for the disappearance of the sacred gems, having stolen them in order to hide them as part of a prank. She returns them, but then angers the Bone King by setting her hand aflame while shaking hands with him.

Kai tries to impress the seriousness of their mission to the Wyldness upon Wyldfyre, but the prank-happy young Elemental Master is uninterested. As it turns out, her inclination towards pranks has already upset the Lava-Tides, the living rock creatures who are keepers of one of the Dragon Cores. They thus refuse to give her, or anyone associated with her, the core in their keeping. Kai asks them to give Wyldfyre a chance to prove that she can change and the Lava-Tides decide she can do so-by repairing every item on their extensive "Scroll of Grievances."

Back in the Crossroads, Frohicky and Zane discover that they are visiting the neighborhood on "Zane Day", an annual event commemorating Zane's heroism. Among the events taking place is a "Zane-alike" contest with a cash prize for the winner, which Zane figures he is a shoo-in to win. Entering under the name "Blane", he finds himself competing with Lobbo and Tope-Epot before a panel of judges that includes Grab-Barg, a Security Bot, and celebrity judge Chancellor Gulch of Shintaro. Unfortunately, his confidence is apparently misplaced, as he loses out to Tope-Epot in the first round.

Back in the Lava-Tides' village, Kai and Wyldfyre set to work undoing all her pranks, and Kai continues his efforts to convince Wyldfyre of the error of her ways. At last they clean up her previous messes, and Wyldfyre even refrains from pulling her "fire handshake" prank again-only for the Lava-Tides to take revenge by refusing to turn over the Dragon Core in spite of their efforts. The Zane-alike contest is likewise going poorly, with Zane accidentally striking the host with his ice powers during an ice cube throwing contest. Wyldfyre, thinking the core lost, starts to leave the Lava-Tide village, but Kai is able to trick her into sticking around by offering to let her take charge.

In the final round of the Zane-alike contest, the contestants must reprogram toasters to perform special tasks. Unfortunately, Zane discovers that his lengthy period of inactivity has left him behind on software updates. He thus loses the contest to Lobbo, and finds himself greatly distressed by this development. Fortunately, the third-place prize for the contest happens to be a gift card for the junkyard, just what he and Frohicky need for get the wyconium coil. Back at the Lava-Tide village, Kai and Wyldfyre retrieve the core from the "Pit of No Return", narrowly escaping dangerous Death Wasps in the process.

Unfortunately, just after they escape the pit, Dorama appears with several Imperium Guards and steals the Dragon Core from them. Kai voices the hope that Nya and Sora's retrieval mission is going better. Unfortunately, when the pair and Riyu arrive at the top of the Pinnacle of Crystals atop Jiro and dragon Sora, they discover that the chest meant to contain the Dragon Core is empty.

Notes[]

  • Zane's loss in his lookalike competition is similar to a number of real-world instances in which celebrities entered lookalike contests of themselves and lost.
